16-year-old charged for fatal hit-and-run

Kankakee police are holding a 16-year-old boy in custody for an alleged hit and run accident that killed a 36-year-old on Monday night. The 16-year-old has been charged with reckless homicide and leaving the scene of a fatal accident, according to the Daily Journal. As of now, it is not clear whether the young man will be charged for these crimes as an adult. Investigators were able to locate the vehicle that caused the accident by gathering evidence at the scene and then tracking the evidence to a house in Chebanse. The accused was later arrested in Clifton.

The accident occurred in the 1600 block of South Schuyler Avenue sometime on Monday night. The accident victim was pronounced dead just before 11 p.m. as the result of serious back and head injuries sustained in the accident. He was last seen on his skateboard near his home on Fourth Avenue and was on his way to see his girlfriend.
