2 injured in suspected stolen vehicle crash on Green St. in Champaign

CHAMPAIGN, IL – Two people were hospitalized after a vehicle fleeing from Champaign police crashed into an SUV on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the News-Gazette, the pursuit began at about 3:07 p.m. when officers located a stolen vehicle driven in the 2000 block of Moreland Boulevard. Officers followed the vehicle until three juveniles exited in the 200 block of Wilbur Avenue. All three were apprehended as the vehicle fled.

Shortly after the initial contact, the suspect vehicle sped past another officer on McKinley Avenue. The vehicle then slammed into an SUV when it reached the intersection with Green Street.

The impact caused the SUV to overturn in the roadway. Two of its occupants were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The suspect driving the stolen vehicle managed to escape the scene on foot. At the time of this writing, is unclear if any arrests have been made.
