2 teens extricated after major crash in rural DeWitt County

Publish Date: 2023, 03, 02

DEWITT COUNTY, IL — Two teenagers were hospitalized Tuesday afternoon after a single-vehicle accident on a rural road near southeast Clinton, according to WCIA.

The DeWitt County Sheriff’s Office said the wreck occurred on a span of Burns Hill Road at about 4:00 p.m.

Preliminary findings indicate a passenger car was traveling down the road, when, for reasons still unknown, it lost control and crashed.

First responders spent a total of about an hour to extricate two teenage occupants from the wreckage. Both patients were rushed to Urbana’s Carle Hospital with undisclosed injuries.

As of Wednesday evening, one of the two teens has been released from the hospital. Authorities have not identified the victims due to their status as minors, but both teens are confirmed to be students at Clinton High School.

It is unclear whether or not weather conditions were a factor in the accident. No charges have been reported at this time.
