Publish Date: 2023, 06, 28

RANKIN, IL – Three people were killed Tuesday night when the driver of a stolen Toyota Camry ran a stop sign and collided with an SUV south of Rankin, WCIA reports.

State Police say the Camry was heading east on County Road 3550N at a high rate of speed when its driver ran the stop sign at Route 49 and T-boned a northbound Jeep Compass in the intersection.

The two occupants of the Jeep, ages 17 and 19, sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash.

The driver of the stolen Toyota was also killed.

According to the News-Gazette, the Toyota was reported stolen out of Rantoul on Monday night. An officer located the vehicle on Maplewood Drive on Tuesday evening and initiated a pursuit that reached speeds upwards of 100 mph. The officer terminated the pursuit out of concern for public safety about 15 minutes prior to the fatal crash.
