Pedestrian struck, killed by pickup truck on US-45 near Thomasboro

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, IL — One person was fatally struck by a vehicle while changing a tire on U.S. Route 45 near south Thomasboro Monday evening, according to WCIA.

Illinois State Police said the fatal incident occurred on a span of highway (County Road 1500 East) near County Road 2300 North, at about 5:00 p.m.

Details remain limited, but an early investigation indicates one person was changing their tire when they were hit by an oncoming pickup truck.

The unidentified victim was rushed to a local hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries.

The driver involved was also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

At about 6:30 p.m., all northbound lanes in the area were shut down as traffic was diverted onto 2300 North. Motorists were urged to use extra caution while traveling by the scene. By 11:30 p.m., the scene had been cleared all lanes were reopened.

At this time, no additional information on the driver has been released, and ISP has not reported any pending charges.
