MCLEAN COUNTY, IL — A 44-year-old woman from Decatur died Friday afternoon following a collision on U.S. Highway 51 near Heyworth, reports Pantagraph.

The accident took place on the northbound lanes approaching U.S. Highway 136. Members of Illinois State Patrol Troop 5 were called to the scene at around 12:30 p.m.

According to ISP, the Decatur woman was driving northbound, when, for reasons still being investigated, her vehicle was struck from behind by a second vehicle.

First responders rushed the victim to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

The driver of the striking vehicle, a 19-year-old male Aurora resident, was not reported hurt.

Authorities had a section of northbound US-51 blocked off during the initial investigation, but by 4:50 p.m., all lanes were reopened to the public.
