Cyclist hospitalized, driver arrested following hit-and-run in Decatur

DECATUR, NM – A 27-year-old Decatur man is facing charges in connection to a hit-and-run that left a cyclist seriously injured early Saturday morning.

According to a report by WCIA, the cyclist was riding north on Oakland Avenue near Center Street at about 1:30 a.m. when a Dodge Charger veered onto the median and struck the man. The Dodge then continued heading north on Oakland Ave.

The cyclist, and unidentified 60-year-old man from Decatur, was taken to an area hospital with serious, potentially life-threatening injuries.

Officers located the Dodge involved in the crash parked at a residence several hours following the incident. The driver, 27-year-old Darius J. Hodges, was arrested on charges of Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Crash, in addition to a number of traffic citations.
