Last Updated: 07 March, 2012

According to the National Highway Safety Administration, a recall for the popular Mini Cooper coupe and convertible turbocharged versions has been placed by BMW to address problems with the water pump that cools the turbocharger.

BMW has received 12 complaints that a problem with the circuit board is capable of malfunctioning and overheating, leading to a possible fire. In eight of those complaints, a fire occurred while the vehicle was parked and the engine turned off. The recall affects nearly 90,000 vehicles built during the period from November 16, 2006 to January 18, 2011.

The affected vehicles are as follows: 2007-2011 Cooper S; 2008-2011 Cooper S Clubman; 2009-2011 Cooper S Convertible; 2011 Cooper S Countryman; 2009-2011 Cooper John Cooper Works; 2009 Cooper Clubman John Cooper Works; and 2010-2011 Cooper Convertible John Cooper Works.
