Car Backs into Plainfield Storefront, Closes Lockport Street for Half Hour

Last Updated: 15 July, 2011

Downtown Plainfield is known for its brick storefronts. But on Monday, July 11, 2011, one of those storefronts was hit by a driver who accidentally backed his car into a building.

The unnamed driver was backing his car into the parallel parking space when his foot hit the accelerator instead of the brake. The vehicle struck another car and went over the curb before crashing into the storefront at 24038 W. Lockport Street, located on the north side of the street. The accident caused breakage of a window and loosening of bricks in the building.

Lockport Street was closed for a half an hour while the area was cleaned up and the vehicle was removed according to the Joliet Herald News. The police cited the driver for improper backing. The driver was not hurt during the incident.
