CHAMPAIGN, IL – A man from Champaign was arrested on Tuesday in connection to a hit-and-run that claimed the life of a motorcyclist on Friday, June 30th.
According to WICS, the motorcyclist was riding south on Neil Street at about 5:49 p.m. when a vehicle veered into his path near the Maple Street intersection. He attempted to maneuver around the vehicle but could not do so in time and collided with it.
Responding officers gave first aid to the man, who was subsequently rushed to an area hospital in serious condition. Unfortunately, he died from his injuries a short time later.
The other driver fled the scene before police arrived. Investigators were able to identify the man and arrested him on Tuesday, July 4th. He has been booked into the Champaign County Correctional Center on charges of leaving the scene of an accident involving great bodily harm and/or death.
