Driver Convicted in Accident Involving Downers Grove Teen

Last Updated: 19 November, 2012

A February crash that left a Downers Grove teen severely disabled has resulted in a conviction against the driver.

Hunter Himes,14, was bicycling  on Lemont Road, heading home. At the same time, Timothy Hagen was driving down  Beller Drive, approaching  Lemont Road. As Hagen was turning right onto Lemont Road, he felt a bump on the truck. When he stopped he found Hunter underneath his vehicle. Hunter suffered traumatic brain injury from the accident and is now in hospice care.

Hagen was convicted of failure to yield to a pedestrian on a sidewalk. He was sentenced to 300 hours of community service and ordered to pay a $1,500 fine.  Himes’ family and friends are currently petitioning Governor Quinn’s office to change the law in regards to traffic laws and a pedestrian’s injury/death.
