Publish Date: 2023, 04, 03

PIATT COUNTY, IL — One person was sent to the hospital Saturday morning after their semi-truck crashed and caught fire on Interstate 74 near Mansfield, reports WCIA.

The Illinois State Patrol did not provide an exact location, but said the incident unfolded on the westbound lanes at around 10:30 a.m.

Though it remains unclear what led up to the fiery wreck, the driver of the semi was able to exit the vehicle before it became completely engulfed in flames.

First responders transported the patient to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Officials did not indicate what the semi was hauling at the time of the event, but photos at the scene show very little left of the vehicle in the aftermath.

A section of the westbound interstate was shut down as crews worked to clear the roadway. By 3:00 p.m., more than 4 hours later, the ISP announced the roadway had been reopened to traffic.
