FAA bans flying with Samsung’s Note 7 smartphones

Last Updated: 17 October, 2016

Due to numerous incidents of battery fires, the United States Federal Aviation Administration banned people from flying to, from, or within the country with their Samsung Note 7 smartphones.

In a recently released statement, Department of Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said, “We recognize that banning these phones from airlines will inconvenience some passengers, but the safety of all those aboard an aircraft must take priority. We are taking this additional step because even one fire incident inflight poses a high risk of severe personal injury and puts many lives at risk.”

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Samsung received 96 reports of Samsung Note 7 smartphones overheating in the country, causing at least 13 people to incur serious burns.
