Family of Woman Hit and Killed in Megabus Accident Files Suit

Last Updated: 13 August, 2012

The family of a retired legal secretary who was hit by a Megabus in Chicago this past week has filed a suit against the busing company.

Donna Halstead, 76, was walking back to her West Loop apartment on August 7, 2012 around 2:00 p.m. She was in the crosswalk on Adams  Street at Canal Street with the light when a Megabus turned left onto her street. Halstead was hit by a mirror on the bus and thrown to the pavement, suffering a head injury. She was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where she died four hours later.

The lawsuit claims negligence and wrongful death on the part of the Megabus company as the driver did not ensure a clear entry into the lane. Megabus, Inc.  had two other accidents this week in Southern Illinois and Georgia, one of which resulted in the death of one passenger.

A trip across the country should not pose a risk to passengers or others. If you or a loved one knows someone who has been hurt in an accident with a motor coach bus or other means of transportation, call Spiros Law, P.C. at (815) 929-9292 for professional legal representation.
