Fatal Crash on Kennedy Expressway Ends with One Dead and One Charged with DUI

Last Updated: 31 July, 2012

A crash over the weekend on the Kennedy Expressway in Chicago resulted in the death of a passenger and the driver charged with a DUI.

Pavlo Lulak, 24, was traveling in the northbound lanes of the Kennedy Expressway in his Mitsubishi Lancer when he lost control of the vehicle near Armitage Avenue around 4:20 a.m. The Chicago resident’s car hit a barrier and bounced back into traffic before hitting two other vehicles. One of those vehicles, an SUV, veered down an off-ramp.

The Lancer was carrying seven people at the time. Some of the passengers were sitting on the laps of others, including 23-year-old Maryana Holovii who was seated behind the driver. Holovii, a resident of Medinah, was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic and was pronounced dead at 6:45 a.m. Lulak was found with a blood alcohol level three times over the legal limit of .08. He was charged with Driving Under the Influence.
