Fatal Crash Takes Life of Gibson City Teen

Publish Date: 2022, 05, 24

On Wednesday, May 18th a Junior at Gibson City Melvin-Sibley high school was unfortunately pronounced dead on the scene after their car was hit by a truck driver who failed to stop at a stop sign just after 6pm. The semi-truck driver was cited for failure to obey a stop sign.

Semi-trucks can carry a considerable amount of weight. The combination of the weight and the speed at which vehicles travel makes the chances of a crash involving a truck much more likely to be fatal, especially when the crash involves a smaller vehicle. As a driver, it is important to always be aware of other drivers, even when at a stop sign. Using caution when driving or approaching a stop sign can mean the difference between life and death.

Tragedies like this happen more often than we know. Unfortunately, we cannot always prevent car crashes such as this one from happening. Sometimes people do not follow general safety rules and end up hurting others. If something like this happens to you or someone you know, it is important to understand the proceeding actions to take. First, seek medical attention for those affected immediately. Seeking attention for any physical damages sustained is imperative to not only having a safe and speedy recovery, but to having the proper documentation of any injuries you may have faced. After receiving any medical attention, you may be tempted to file a claim with the insurance agency. Although this may seem like the logical next step, first you should consider hiring an attorney to represent you in your claim. Hiring an attorney who specializes in car crashes can help you to receive the proper compensation for your injuries, both physical and emotional. Insurance agencies are meant to undercut your damages and attempt to get you to settle at the lowest price possible. Negotiating with an insurance agent may seem difficult, especially if it is your first time. Having someone on your side who is skilled in handling insurance agents and can fight for your right to fair and just compensation will benefit you overall.

If you or a loved one has recently been seriously impacted by a two-vehicle crash, you should be compensated for your damages.
