Federal officials formally start investigations on Tesla fires

Last Updated: 22 November, 2013

On Tuesday, November 19, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration formally launched a probe into what could be causing Tesla Model S electric cars’ fires after several incidences have been reported recently.

Before NHTSA’s announcement, Tesla chief executive Elon Musk said the company will be taking three contingency measures as a result of the fires even as he stood by the quality of his electric cars. The measures are as follows:

  • Enlisting the help of federal safety regulators to “conduct a full investigation as soon as possible into the fires”
  • Reforming new vehicles to have higher ground clearance in order to help them avoid striking road debris that can hit the battery packs and start a fire
  • Changing the products’ warranty plan to include any fire damage

While it is uncertain if the Tesla is actually unsafe or defective, many other vehicles on the market are. If you or a loved one has sustained injuries due to the use of a malfunctioning or dangerous product in Kankakee, our legal team at Spiros Law, P.C., might be able to help you get much-needed compensation.
