Publish Date: 2023, 03, 09

WILL COUNTY, IL — Two men from Kankakee died Tuesday morning after a head-on collision on Illinois Route 113 near south Wilmington, reports Daily Journal.

Illinois State Police said the fatal wreck occurred south of Irish Lane, on March 7, at around 5:10 a.m.

An early investigation shows a 21-year-old man, also of Kankakee, was driving a Toyota Camry south on the highway. At one point, for reasons still unknown, the Camry traveled into the northbound lane and hit an oncoming Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck head-on. Both vehicles caught on fire as a result.

The driver of the pickup, a 47-year-old man, was pronounced deceased on the scene, confirmed officials.

His passenger, a 30-year-old man, was rushed to an area hospital but also later died from his injuries.

The driver of the Camry, who suffered undisclosed injuries, was transported to a local hospital. No updates on his condition have been made public at this time.

State police continues to investigate, and charges are said to be pending.
