Fire Causes Damage to Pallet Company Building

Last Updated: 13 January, 2011

Universal Pallets saw damage at their 601 N. Entrance Avenue site from a fire that started in a debris pile last weekend. The fire was under control in about 16 minutes.

According to Dave Harmon, the Kankakee assistant fire chief, the fire could have been much worse and the building could have been consumed. A wall on the east side of the building and the ceiling was damaged. The building remains salvageable. Once the flames were out, the fire department members removed the smoke by way of positive pressure fans. Positive pressure fans move the air towards an exhaust point; in this case, allowing smoke removal for easier investigation.
