Foggy Morning Accident Leaves One Man Dead and Another Injured

Last Updated: 27 November, 2012

A 21-year-old Limestone firefighter from Kankakee was killed last week when his car was struck by a tanker truck.

Alex Geistwhite  was traveling on 2000 North Road on November 21st. Shortly before 8:00 a.m. Geiswhite pulled up to the intersection of 2000 N and Warner Bridge Road. At the same time, a tanker truck driven by Guy Huston was traveling north on Warner Bridge Road. As Geistwhite’s Chevy Malibu turned into the intersection, it crashed into Huston’s tanker and sent both men to Riverside Medical Center.

Geistwhite was pronounced dead at 5:45 on Wednesday evening. Herscher resident Huston, 46, was in stable condition as of  Thursday, November 22nd. The initial investigation showed that Geistwhite at fault for failure to yield to oncoming traffic but the heavy morning fog was also a contributing factor.
