Hit-and-Run Driver Kills Joliet Man

Last Updated: 06 December, 2012

A Joliet man walking with his wife and dog on Saturday morning was killed by a hit-and-run driver.

Luis and Carmen Valladolid were walking eastward on Curtis Avenue with their dog nearing the cross street of Williams Street on December 1st. Around 6:45 a.m. a small grey or silver car turned into the wrong lane of Williams Street and struck the couple from behind. Mrs. Valladolid was only grazed but her 68-year-old husband struck the windshield and suffered critical injuries. The driver stopped the car and got out to look at what happened.

The driver then went back into his car and drove away on Waverly Place. An off-duty police officer on his way to work saw the couple and called for paramedics. Mr. Valladolid was taken to Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center and stayed in the intensive care until his family ceased life support on Monday, December 3rd.

Police canvassed the area for the car but have not located the vehicle. The family dog was not injured in the accident.
