Homer Glen Teen Killed in Rollover Accident

Last Updated: 01 October, 2012

A Homer Glen teenager was killed in an accident on Tuesday night as he was returning from McDonald’s with a friend.

Lockport High School student Jay Vana, 16, had gone with a friend to McDonald’s. Around 8:30 p.m., they were returning to Vana’s home when they approached the intersection of Lauffer and Haas Roads. The driver was attempting to turn south onto Haas Road when a deer emerged from the cornfield. He lost control of the vehicle in an attempt to miss the deer.

The pick up truck left the road and rolled over, causing Vana to be thrown from the truck. He was found partially covered by the vehicle after it rolled over him. Vana was taken to Silver Cross Hospital where he was pronounced dead. It is believed that alcohol or drugs did not play a part in the accident, which is still under investigation.
