Illinois Woman Dies after Truck Accident

Last Updated: 11 March, 2013

Illinois State Police reported that a 78-year-old woman died Thursday at St. John’s Hospital in Spaulding, Ill. after suffering serious injuries in a truck accident.

The victim, Norma Thompson of Sherman, collided with an 18-wheeler just before 8:30 a.m. when she pulled on to southbound Williamsville Road at Illinois 54. The semi truck, driven by Richard Leverton, 47, of Versailles, was headed east on Illinois 54 when it struck Thompson’s vehicle.

Leverton was reportedly wearing a seat belt and did not suffer any injuries. Police have yet to confirm whether or not Thompson was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

After striking Thompson’s vehicle, the semi truck ran into Spaulding Village Hall before coming to a stop. Fortunately, damage to the village hall appears to be minimal and no one inside the building was injured as a result of the accident.

Our thoughts go out to all the loved ones of the victim.
