Man arrested after crashing stolen car on IL-1 near Watseka

IROQUOIS COUNTY, IL — A 39-year-old man was arrested Friday after crashing a stolen vehicle during a police chase on Illinois Route 1 near Watseka, reports WCIA.

According to the Iroquois County Sheriff’s Office, the wreck occurred on a span of the northbound highway northeast of the town.

Authorities said the man was driving a stolen car and being pursued by Hoopeston Police officers who had received an alert about the robbery.

After the crash, the suspect exited the vehicle and plunged into the Iroquois River in an attempt to evade police. Shortly after, he was pulled out of the water and transported to a local hospital.

The suspect faces multiple charges, including “unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle, aggravated fleeing and eluding[,] and felony driving with a revoke license.”
