Publish Date: 2023, 03, 01

MCLEAN COUNTY, IL — A 25-year-old Tucson, Arizona man died early Wednesday after a two-truck crash on Interstate 55 near Bloomington, according to WCIA.

Illinois State Police said the fatal accident occurred shortly before 2:00 a.m.

A preliminary investigation found a 39-year-old driver from Salt Lake City, Utah was attempting to pull a semi-truck back onto the highway after having stopped on the shoulder. Troopers said that driver had not gained speed on the shoulder when the semi was rear-ended by a box truck driven by the victim, who died from his injuries at the scene.

Neither the driver of the semi or their 64-year-old passenger was hurt in the wreck. Following the crash, the surviving driver was cited violating “minimum speed regulations, failing to yield to merging traffic and improper lane usage.”
