Man dies after head-on crash on County Rd 2000 N in NE Danville

Publish Date: 2023, 04, 26

VERMILION COUNTY, IL — A 29-year-old Indiana man died Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle accident northeast of Danville, according to The News-Gazette.

The Vermilion County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened on a span of County Road 2000 North near County Road 1970th East, at about 2:50 p.m.

A preliminary investigation shows the victim was driving a pickup truck west on County Road 2000 North. When the pickup was just beyond the intersection, it was struck head-on by an eastbound SUV that had veered into the westbound lane.

First responders rushed the driver of the pickup to Danville’s OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later. Officials say an autopsy, scheduled on Wednesday, April 26, will determine the victim’s official cause of death.

The VCSO has not identified or indicated any injuries to the SUV driver, a 23-year-old man, but said he was cited for “improper lane usage.”

A crash reconstructionist with the Illinois State Police was called to the scene to begin an investigation. Our team will continue to follow this developing story and provide any additional details as they are made publicly available.
