Publish Date: 2023, 02, 20

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, IL — A 32-year-old Indiana man died early Saturday after a collision that hurt two others on Interstate 72 near west Seymour, reports WCIA.

The fatal accident happened on the westbound interstate near milepost 173, just northeast of White Heath, shortly before 1:00 a.m.

According to Illinois State Police, a 50-year-old Indianapolis, Indiana man was behind the wheel of a 2013 Black Kia Soul heading westbound. At one point, for reasons still unknown, he veered off the roadway and traveled into the median, causing the car to roll.

The male driver and two passengers were all ejected from the vehicle. One of the passengers was pronounced deceased following the wreck, confirmed officials.

The other passenger, a 35-year-old man also from Indianapolis, was transported to a local hospital with undisclosed injuries.

State police did not disclose the condition of the driver, but he received multiple citations, including “driving with a revoked license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, causing bodily harm to another, improper lane usage, and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.”

Authorities continue to investigate.
