O’Fallon resident Bernice King filed a lawsuit on August 6 against Joyce Mayes-Birke in the St. Clair County Circuit Court, claiming that she committed negligence when her car hit King’s vehicle at the intersection of Grimmig Road and North Illinois Street on August 2013, The Madison-St. Clair Record reported on August 18.

According to the lawsuit, King was driving her vehicle along the intersection of North Illinois Street and Grimmig Road when Mayes-Birke, who was attempting to turn left onto North Illinois from Grimmig, collided with King’s vehicle. King claimed she sustained injuries due to the vehicle accident, saying that Mayes-Birke was negligent and failed to yield the right of way. The plaintiff wants over $50,000 in damages.
