Oil has stopped leaking from failing pipeline

Last Updated: 15 September, 2010

Officials have said that after four days, oil has stopped leaking from the failed pipeline that caused 6,100 barrels of crude oil to be spilled onto the street of the industrial park.

A spokesperson from Enbridge Energy Partners announced that crews have been working to remove the broke pipeline, but that they have drained the remaining oil that was in the pipe. Officials from the Environmental Protection Agency have been investigating the incident to see if an environmental impact will have been made.

Officials have announced that the oil has been collected in a retention pond and have not reached the river. The entire cleanup and excavation process will take at least a month, but will likely take longer. Businesses that are affected by the oil will be compensated.
