One injured in semi truck accident

Last Updated: 26 September, 2018

Laverne R. Schultz, 85, of Herscher, was seriously injured after a crash involving a semi on Illinois Route 115 on Sunday.

Schultz was driving east on Route 115 in his 2014 Dodge Ram around 10 AM at the time of the crash. Meanwhile, Gerbretsadik T. Hagdu, 37, of Sioux City, Iowa, was driving north on Lehigh Road, approaching Route 115, in a 2007 Volvo semi. According to the investigation conducted by Illinois State Police District 21, Hagdu failed to stop at the stop sign, causing Schultz to collide with the semi’s driver side semi drive axle.

Schultz was taken to Riverside Medical Center, then transferred to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood for treatment of his injuries. Hagdu was issued a ticket for failing to yield at an intersection. On Monday, police were stationed at the intersection to enforce the stop.
