Last Updated: 22 November, 2011

One person was injured in a semi-truck rollover accident that occurred Monday on Illinois Route 1.

According to Illinois police, the 42-year-old driver of a semi-truck was traveling on Route 1 when the truck left the road. The truck then tried to get the vehicle back onto the road and he overcorrected causing him to lose control.

The vehicle, which was carrying gasoline, flipped over as a result. The scene was not contaminated, but crews did arrive to transport the fuel to another tanker. The roadway was closed for nearly 11 hours while the cleanup crew worked.

The driver was able to discuss the accident with police officials, but was transported to Riverside Medical Center in order to be treated. He was cited for improper lane usage and failure to wear a seat belt.
