OSHA Proposes Fines at Kankakee Company for Failing to Protect Workers.

Last Updated: 21 August, 2012

A Kankakee company has been cited for failure to protect its workers from asbestos exposure by The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and face paying up to $59,000 in proposed fines.

OSHA stated the Kankakee Johnson Controls facility failed to require workers to wear appropriate protective gear including respirators and protective clothing while workers did their jobs in an AT&T building.  OSHA inspected the work site upon receiving complaints about possible dangers and found five violations.

Asbestos is a natural material that is used as an insulation material as well as a strengthening ingredient in plastics. It has been found to be a health hazard when particles are breathed in and lodge themselves in the lungs. For some this can lead to infections but for others exposure to asbestos material can lead to lung cancer and mesothelioma which are life-ending diseases.

Unsafe working conditions can leave a worker with a life-long disability. If you or a loved one knows someone who has been injured at their workplace, call Spiros Law, P.C. at (815) 929-9292 to explore your legal rights.
