Pedestrian killed after being hit by public works truck

Momence resident and local figure William Gilbert was killed on Wednesday, November 20 after he was hit by a public works truck around 3 p.m.

According to Bob Gessner, Kankakee County Coroner, the 84-year-old was struck by a truck that was picking up leaves on the streets at the intersection of Ash and Sixth streets. He is said to have died at the scene of the crash.

Although no charges had been filed in relation to the accident as of yesterday evening, the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Department is looking into the incident.
