Police identify Springfield teen who died in Old Route 36 car accident

Seventeen-year-old Springfield, Illinois resident Emily Pinney was identified as the person who died last Wednesday, November 26 after the Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck that she had been driving at around 3:18 pm. collided with a westbound Jeep Cherokee operated by a 20-year-old woman from Sherman, an article on sj-r.com reports.

According to the Illinois State Police, Pinney was driving east on Old Route 36 when she lost control of her vehicle, likely due to icy road conditions, and collided with the Sherman woman’s vehicle. The Sangamon County Coroner’s Office declared that Pinney had passed shortly after she was rushed to the emergency room of the Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. The driver of the Jeep Cherokee and her passenger, a 22-year-old woman from Springfield, were taken to a different Springfield hospital.
