Runner Attacked by Two Dogs at Lakeshore Park

Last Updated: 12 January, 2012

A man was jogging through the Rainbow Beach Park on the Southside of Chicago when two large dogs attacked him, requiring hospitalization for the man.

Joseph Finley was jogging along the lakeshore as he usually does after working all night as a sleep therapist. Two pit bulls, who weighed seventy pounds each, attacked the jogger and bit him all over his body. A neighbor heard the man’s cries for help and used a bat to try to stop the attack.

Police arrived on the scene and were forced to shoot the dogs when they turned from Finley and rushed the officers. It was later discovered that the dogs had been let out of their fenced yard by an unknown person. Finley was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition and his status has upgraded to stable.
