FARMER CITY, IL – Officials temporarily closed the eastbound side of I-74 near exit 159 in Farmer City on Thursday after an 18-wheeler caught fire, reports WCIA.
The incident happened sometime in the early afternoon, at which point authorities diverted traffic off of the interstate until around 1:38 p.m. when the left lane of traffic re-opened.
Photos taken at the scene depict heavy smoke coming from the tractor trailer. Police have not yet commented on what might have caused the truck to ignite. It is also unclear whether anyone sustained injuries as a result of the fire.
