Semi-truck crash in Manteno leaves 3 in critical condition

Last Updated: 08 October, 2015

A two-vehicle collision involving a semi-truck and an SUV has left three people with critical injuries. The collision occurred on Sunday afternoon at a two-way stop on 9000N Road west of Manteno.

According to Manteno Fire Chief Scott O’Brien, all three people involved had to be rescued from their vehicles, including a man and a woman in the SUV who were taken to Kankakee hospitals.

The semi-truck had flipped upside down and O’Brien stated that it took 90 minutes to extricate the driver of the semi. O’Brien said that utility crews arrived within 15 minutes of the crash to cut the power to a pole that had snapped and was hanging over the truck. A heavy duty tow truck was also used to free the semi-truck driver from the cab.

Roads in the surrounding area were closed for nearly three hours. The cause of the crash is currently under investigation by state and county police officials. According to O’Brien, this was the second two-vehicle collision at this intersection in 24 hours.
