Seven Injured when Mini-van Crashes into Sauganash Home

Last Updated: 23 August, 2012

Tuesday morning gave the Fakhoury family in the Sauganash neighborhood of Chicago an unusual wake-up call when a mini-van crashed into their home.

During the hour of 6 a.m. the family heard a loud boom that shook the house located in the 6300 North block of Kolmar. When homeowner, Adel Fakhoury, investigated the noise he found a GMC Savana touching his house and a silver four-door Toyota Camry resting in his yard. Several people were lying on his lawn as well. One of the cars was smoking as if it was on fire.

Fakhoury removed his wife and three adult children from the house and called 911. An EMS plan 1 was called which automatically sends five ambulances in the case of a vehicle hitting a building.  One person was taken to an area hospital in serious-to-critical condition. Three others were taken in fair-to-serious condition. An additional group of three people were treated at the scene of accident.

The cause of the accident was not known. The Fakhoury family was able to return to the home which suffered a broken window and crack in the bi-level building. Emergency personal did not remove the van until they were certain the building was secure and not collapse upon removal. Devon and Kolmar remained closed for several hours until the accident was cleared away.
