Three individuals hurt in two-car crash south of Mascoutah

Last Updated: 24 April, 2014

Three individuals who police have yet to publicly identify had to be airlifted to a hospital after a two-vehicle accident on Route 4 near Jefferson, south of Mascoutah, Illinois on April 22, left them critically wounded.

According to police troopers from the Illinois State Police, the first car was occupied by two men, both about 30 years of age.

Trooper Calvin Dye, Jr. said the driver of the first vehicle lost control of the wheel, turned off of the roadway, and then overcorrected back into the left lane, hitting the second vehicle, a tan-colored Buick occupied by a 77-year-old woman.

The passenger in the first vehicle was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the wreck and was thrown from the vehicle, and the damage to the second vehicle was severe enough that the 77-year-old woman had to be cut out of her car by emergency responders.
