Last Updated: 10 June, 2011

Two separate car crashes on Interstate 57 left three people dead and seven other people injured just south of Matoon.

According to Illinois State Police, one accident occurred as a semi-truck driver was heading south down the roadway when traffic began to slow. He first struck the rear of  a pickup truck, sending it into the median and then struck two more vehicles before losing control and running off the side of the road.

A 67-year-old passenger in the second vehicle was killed due to injuries sustained in the collision. The other accident occurred earlier in the day when two semi-trucks collided and also caused a fatality. Seven people in the accidents were injured and needed medical attention.

Trucking accidents can cause serious injuries or worse. Our thoughts are with the friends and family of the victims.
