Three-vehicle crash on I-57 kills one, injures two others

Last Updated: 16 May, 2018

A three-car crash on Interstate 57 near Manhattan-Monee Road resulted in the death of a 29-year old Glenwood man on Monday. The collision occurred at about 3:40 p.m. when the driver of a Cadillac Escalade slammed into the victim’s car and pushed it into the back of tanker trailer. Authorities believe that the collision occurred during a slowdown in traffic on the highway.

The driver of the Escalade was identified as a 45-year-old man from Peotone, who was cited for driving on a revoked license. During the collision, a child was ejected from his vehicle. Authorities later determined that the child was not properly restrained in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Both the child and driver were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Ultimately, the driver was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision, driving on a revoked license, and failure to secure a child in a proper restraint system.
