Train accident causes Highway 24 closure

A train accident on U.S. Highway 24 caused the roadway to be closed near Crescent City.

According to officials, the accident occurred as the eastbound train slid off the tracks while carrying ethanol. The train came to a stop in a grassy area between the highway and the tracks.

The highway was closed throughout the night and drivers were told to take Illinois Highway 1 as a detour. The incident occurred between Crescent City and Watseka. No further details or injuries were reported as of yet.
