Twelve killed in Midwest twisters

Last Updated: 01 March, 2012

Twelve people have been killed in the twisters that have torn through three Midwest states. One twister that tore through Harrisburg, Illinois was rated a EF4 and left six people dead.

This twister struck before dawn and traveled with winds at speeds up to 170 mph and was over 200 yards wide. An EF4 is the second highest rating for a tornado and it is ranked by scientists by the amount of damage.

According to the Washington Post, a total of 12 people have been killed in the three different states and many more have been injured. Towns people are now beginning to sort through debris, but officials believe that there may be more harsh weather in the future.
