Two Cyclists Struck by Semi in Iroquois County

Last Updated: 10 September, 2014

As the sun set on Sunday, September 7 in Iroquois County, a semi-truck hit two cyclists on County Road 500N. The accident sent the cyclists to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The truck driver, Rodney B. Schroeder, 54, told the police that the cyclists were not visible to him due to the setting sun in his eyes.

Schroeder hit the two cyclists with the passenger-side bumper and headlight. After being knocked into a ditch, the two cyclists were taken to Hoopseton Hospital and then airlifted to Carle Hospital in Champaign. Both cyclists should make a full recovery.

The Iroquois sheriff’s department ticketed Schroeder for failure to reduce his speed to avoid a truck accident. Due to the nature of the accident, the incident is still under investigation by the police department.

Unfortunately, accidents such as this happen more frequently than we would like to think. If you have been injured in a truck accident, contact the Kankakee truck accident lawyers at Spiros Law, P.C., By calling (815) 929-9292 today.
