Two semi-tractor accidents close Interstate 57

Two separate semi-truck accidents caused Interstate 57 to be shut down twice in one day.

According to Illinois State Police, The first accident occurred at 9 a.m. when one of the semi-trucks rear-ended another one. The semi that rear-ended the other then caught fire killing the driver. The driver of the other truck was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The southbound lanes were closed and all traffic was rerouted.

The second accident occurred eight hours later only five miles from the first one. Three semi-trucks were involved in the second accident.

The driver of one of these semi-trucks was pronounced dead at the scene and one was treated for minor injuries. One official said that he has never seen anything like the two accidents in his 30 years at the department.

Semi-truck accidents can cause serious injury to all people involved, our thoughts are with the friends and family of the victim.
