Woman dies after head-on crash on US-150 near east St. Joseph

Publish Date: 2023, 05, 01

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, IL — A 62-year-old woman died Sunday evening after a two-vehicle crash near east Saint Joseph that left two other people injured, reports WCIA.

Illinois State Police said the fatal accident took place on a span of U.S. Route 150 just west of County Road 2450 East, at around 8:30 p.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates the woman, a resident of Saint Joseph, was in a westbound Buick approaching County Road 2450 East. At one point, for reasons still unknown, the Buick veered past the centerline and collided head-on with an eastbound Hyundai driven by a 15-year-old Homer resident.

The St. Joseph woman was pronounced deceased on the scene by the Champaign County Coroner at 9:35 p.m.

The teen driver and one other Hyundai occupant both suffered non-fatal injuries and were rushed by ambulance to an area hospital.

A section of the highway was blocked for nearly six hours during the response.

At this time, the ISP and the coroner’s office continue to investigate. More information will be available following an autopsy set to be conducted on Monday, May 1, in Urbana.
